Clearwater River, Clearwater (WA)

December 29, 2009 // Posted in Fishing, Salmon, Steelhead (Tags: , , , , , ) |  No Comments

Date: Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Time: 2:30-3:00pm: Fished Clearwater River briefly on way back from the Queets River just off Clearwater Road just past the first bridge and the “Entering Clearwater” sign on the right. Fishing for Steelhead.

As I made it around the bend while busting out the Chickenfoot at 110db I saw 3 waders – just new this was the place. Sure enough, but I was running out of time. Pulled out on the edge of the beach, left waders in truck, and grabbed the spinner. A few feet from the truck I snagged 2nd cast in 2 feet depth. Laid down the rod, went back to truck, put on waders, went back and waded out to the rig and unhooked the snag. Proceeded to float w/ the “pink” rig just fine. The 3 waders I saw upstream must have thought I was nuts, or some city slicker. I was sure to stay about 100 yards downstream from them to not distract them with my antics. Fished about 10 casts before I saw a big ‘un swim right in front of my feet. About a 15lb Salmon, it was ugly and in bad shape, and wasn’t hungry at all. I nearly slapped him in the head with the jig after 3 direct passes didn’t cause a stir. He finally drifted out deeper and downstream. He was an ugly fellow with lots of rough white blotches on nearly his entire back. Enough excitement, now that I was an hour late returning to the family vacation…..time to leave. No fish, again.

Upper Cle Elum River, SALMON LA SAC (WA)

June 22, 2009 // Posted in Fishing, Salmon, Steelhead (Tags: , , , , ) |  No Comments

Date: Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Saturday, 10am-12pm: fished Upper Cle Elum River at first main bridge south of  Salmon la Sac Campground. Nice spot, water was clear , access was good, but fishing was not very productive.  Attempted Lightning bugs, Elkhair Caddis, San Juan worm, and Prince Nymph. Had a couple bites on Prince, none  hooked. Kids also fished with the Spiderman and Barbie rigs…with very little success, unless you count catching rocks.

Saturday, 5-6:30pm: fished the “washout” area just south of Salmon la Sac on Upper Cle Elem. The “washout” is an area where the river has washed out Hwy 903/Salmon la Sac Road, some gravel repair has restored it to where passage is capable.  Some very excellent riffles and holes here along the road. Attempted to Czech Nymph through some of rocky area…wow, not bad for first try. Caught and released unharmed two 10-12in Rainbow trout.  Used a lighting bug behind an Elkhair Caddis. Wind was picking up pretty good, so only fished 1.5 hours.

Weather: 70-75 F
Water: Clear, cold, fast
Access: Great
Rig: Green Lightning bug trailing Elkhair Caddis, 7.5ft 4x Rio Leader, not optimal but worked some
Notes: Drove to Tucquala Lake (10mi up in alpine lake area), not very accessible for shore fishing this early, snow still on ground. Ranger suggested that there could be a couple in the beaver ponds, but probably would wait until Aug/Sept.

Why blog?

May 18, 2005 // Posted in Hmmm, blogging (Tags: ) |  No Comments

I don’t get it. What in  is the point of a blog?  Is it to ‘hear’ yourself think?  Or to make others ‘hear’ you?  I don’t know, just don’t get it.  I am the type that says it, although not always as pleasantly as others may wish.  If I got somethin’ to say…I say it.  I also hate writing letters/cards….1) it seems impersonal to me, and 2)cards are the biggest racket of all time. $3 bucks for some sappy piece of junk that gets thrown in the trash at the end of the day?….lame!!!

If you got something to say….I say CALL THEM(my employer will appreciate you using your cell phone).
They will appreciate it. I know you have a cellphone….I saw you meandering all over the damn road this morning while talking on it. By the way, I screen all calls, so if you call me it better be for a good reason….ahahahahaha.

Anyway, I’ll rant about that some other time….
What is the point of a blog? I just don’t know. I got better ways to waste my time….like steam cleaning my carpets that the little kiddee has nearly destroyed. Or paint the hallways, or replace the sprinkler heads I sawed off with the lawn mower. Is the point of a blog to make me feel ‘heard’ by the masses? Why? Aren’t those people around me sufficient to fill my need for acceptance? If not, time to find new people.
Hmmm…interesting thought. Many folks would say that we have become a closer, tighter global community due to these sorts of high tech things…the blogs, the cell phones, the IM, the SMS, etc.  Hmmm…I don’t know about that…in fact, I am beginning to think just the opposite. These things have done more for isolating people than anything else I can think of. Where is the real interaction? the expression, the feeling…the real acceptance.  It creates a false sense of acceptance…that is obvious by the continual use of these sorts of tools to scam and deceive people. It is devoid of all feeling, all personal interaction, expressionless….in my opinion it is nearly useless.  You could do this from a cave….in fact some do, why?  Are they trying to avoid ‘real’ interaction?  Or are they trying to misrepresent themselves? Or are they just so damn busy that this is the only way to communicate?
ah…damn it!…I just wasted 30 minutes on this impersonal blog thing. I could have pulled those weeds in the front yard.
Maybe I’ll finish my thoughts next time….next year…if there is a next time.

WaGiN – World Gambling Network

August 12, 2006 // Posted in Hmmm, Sports (Tags: , ) |  No Comments

I am in the midst of a search for investor’s to help me create a new television network whose primary focus will be on the so called “sport” of gambling.  I am sick and tired of this evil, immoral,  and addictive disease, loosely termed “gambling”, infiltrating my television sports viewing. In “the old days”, as far back as 2003, we could watch hours upon hours of truly competitive and sometimes amazing feats being tasked in the name of “sport”. At one point, we even had no less than 4 nationwide networks and numerous affiliates devoted entirely to these athletic demonstrations. Sport can be defined as “Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.” It is the level of physical activity and exertion required to participate in such “sport” as gambling that I question. I seriously doubt when the Greeks first began the Pan-Hellenic festival in ancient Greece consisting of athletic games and contests , first celebrated in 776 B.C. and held on the plain of Olympia in honor of the Olympian Zeus, that they anticipated the term athletic or sport being defiled and desecrated to the point that it included a competitive event  nearly devoid of all athletic abilities. While I don’t question the inherent neural capabilities required to competitively participate in such “intellectual” feats, such as Chess, Poker, and Backgammon, I do note that the primary ability necessary to compete is that more of an intellectual capacity than that of an athletic ability. Therefore, being that gambling is a feat more comprised of intellect and good fortune or luck, I propose that we remove all such events from our television networks that celebrate the feats and events that are competitive and truly athletic, and as such, considered to be truly worthy of the term “sport(s)”.

In the year of the Dog, I wish to create a network solely dedicated to those feats which can not be classified as Sport through athleticism, but is considered to be an intellectual and competitive feat. A network for gambling addicted neural geeks if you will. The purpose of this network is two-fold. The first benefit this network will provide to the public is that we can finally put to rest this quagmire and political rhetoric as to which is “sport”. If it is on one of the other traditional “Sports” networks it must be sports. If it is on our network, it must be gambling. The second benefit to the public, and probably more significant from a traditional stance on socialist poised health and insurance issues, is that there would be one network that all neural geeks, termed “gamblers”, would be focusing their viewing pleasure. Thus allowing those in society who know best for others to concentrate on one entity and one group. This would allow more efficiency in the effort to stamp out such immoral activities and to “help” those who suffer from the disease of gambling. While, this may promote more government mistrust, I believe that it is in fact in the best interest of society and therefore, in effort to continue our move towards socialism, I am willing to do my part in society.

While I have just begun my search for investor’s, I do hope that you can join me in the awesome opportunity to break through the quagmire and political unrest we face today in Sports.
It is my hope that with this constitution and your help, the new gambling network known as WaGiN, or the World Gambling Network, will become a reality.

PS. As well, we may be able to get boxing on our new network.
Obviously, boxing does not follow any known set of rules and is generally fixed. Therefore, without the necessary elements to be considered Sport, it is likely that we can persuade the WBA, WBF, WBC, WBO, WBU, AIBA, IBA, IBF, IBC, IBO, IBF, and whatever other self-proclaimed boxing authority, to broadcast their entertainment on our network.
Next week…..we will focus on a steroid network. Perhaps, our favorite drug manufacturers would give us bulk steroid discounts….what a great way to fund the network. Perhaps, the MLB player’s union could run our annual pledge fund.

Corbetena and The Marietas Islands, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Corbetena and The Marietas Islands
Date: August 28th, 2008

Notoriously active for Marlin, Sailfish and Tuna, this place did not disappoint. Twenty to 36 miles West off the coast of Marina Vallarta, Mexico is where the fish are. We set out about 6am and arrived near the Islands by 8am . Before lunch we had caught 2 9ft Sailfish and a 15-20lb Tuna. The boat was a little dated, but the Captain and deckhand were very knowledgeable and very nice. And, did I mention?  We caught 2 Sailfish in about 2 hours.  We did not encounter any Marlin as they tend to be more near El Banco (The Banks), which is another 15 miles out and another couple more Ben Franklins.

Rig/Gear: Shimano/Penn/Tiagra Reels, Calstar Rods
Boat: 32′ Tournament something
Note(s):Master Baiter’s Sportfishing is relatively expensive, but they have a reputation for “catching”, not just “fishing”. I found it well worth it.  “You usually get what you pay for!”
